the burning threshold
At the edge of a cold and infinite horizon, a light emerges from the water like a living enigma. Its glow is hypnotic, alluring, as if the ocean had opened a portal to the unknown. A person stops to contemplate it, unable to look away. The light not only illuminates, it invades, as if designed to pierce flesh and soul with an incomprehensible message.
Eye contact is enough for something to begin to change. First, a subtle sensation: warmth in the chest, a quickening heartbeat. Then, an invisible fire consumes from within, burning what was once human. His skin begins to burn, but there is no flame, only smoke rising like a silent scream of transformation and agony.
The series captures this moment of fusion between body and mystery. The smoke billowing from the skin is as ethereal as it is disturbing, evidence that something impossible is happening. The light, in contrast, remains motionless, as if contemplating its own work. Each photograph is a window into this destructive and sublime process, where pain mingles with terrifying beauty, and the body becomes the stage for a battle between the earthly and the unattainable.
It is a visual story that explores the fragility of the body in the face of the unknown, the overwhelming power of the divine or the extraterrestrial, and the inevitable transformation that arises from contact with the incomprehensible. Here, the rising smoke is the witness of an irreversible change, a visual poem about the ephemerality of the human being and the eternity of forces we do not understand.
